The Australasian Ornithological Conference (AOC) is a biennial conference hosted jointly between Birds Australia and Birds New Zealand. The 2019 AOC was held in Darwin from 3 to 5 July. Read more here.

Birds New Zealand offers travel grants to assist postgraduate research students from New Zealand to present their findings at the AOC.

Two travel grants are offered every two years: $500 (if the AOC is held in New Zealand) or $1,000 (if held in Australia) each. A travel grant is awarded ONCE to any one person. Successful applicants are expected to write a short report on their conference experience for publication in Birds New Zealand and/or submit an article to Notornis.

Who can apply?

To be eligible, applicants must be current Birds NZ members and postgraduate students at the time of submitting an application.

How and when to apply?

Applications for travel grants are currently closed. Applications will re-open in May 2021.
